The legality of euthanasia

Euthanasia is considered to be one of the most important discussions that involve such aspect as morality and legality. One can say that it is an act of painless death due to which a person stops suffering from agony. There are controversies concerning euthanasia all over the world. Many religions interdict it and, moreover, it is illegal in most countries.

From one point of view, euthanasia is the way to help people who suffering form strong pain. But a question arises when one should decide who satisfies the requirement to make such a decision, i.e. who lives and who dies. There can be a lot of reasons for asking for euthanasia that can involve additional problems.

There are cases when people consider that death is the only way to relief their pain in other words it is a benefit over living. The ground for committing an act of euthanasia is to help a person whose death is predetermined. Disputes concerning the morality and legality of voluntary euthanasia arose more than 50 years ago.

If we take a look at ancient times the position of Greeks and Romans was based on the thesis that life should not be saved in case there was no means to cure a person. In the sixteenth there were communities that eased the death of those people who suffered from long-lasting pain or who was tortured. Efficient practical steps were made to legalize voluntary euthanasia only within the last century.

Euthanasia has the following forms: voluntary and non-voluntary. In case of voluntary euthanasia a patient can ask to be mercy killed as he may have unbearable sufferings. Non-voluntary euthanasia is considered to be the worst form of mercy killing as in this case the commitment of euthanasia can be done without person’s knowing.

It is a bit controversial subject whether to legalize euthanasia or not, but one should remember that it is inhuman to let people suffering when they ask to release with the help of painless and moreover rapid termination of life. There are cases when patients suffer agony from pain that is irrestrainable. If a person is struggling constant paint that is impossible to relieve or if a person’s vital functions depend completely on medical apparatus does not he has rights to end his life legally. Euthanasia is the way to bring to the end not only sufferings of the patient but also families and friends who have to observe an agony of a close person.

In America many people are brought up in order to believe in human rights, and it is common knowledge that each person has rights to live since his or her birth. Such rights help improve the quality of human life. The physician-assisted suicide is considered to be a matter of rights, morality as well as legality. Euthanasia should be legalized in the United States but the rules should be very strict. It is important to understand that this is the way that gives the right to a person to die in terms of extreme circumstances.
